On Site Engineer

Job Purpose:

Our client is seeking an Onsite Engineer in the IT (Information Technology) industry is responsible for providing on-site technical support and assistance to customers or clients. Their primary role is to ensure that computer systems, networks, hardware, software, and other IT-related equipment are functioning correctly and efficiently. Overall, the role requires a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and strong communication abilities to deliver high-quality IT support to clients and end-users

 Responsibilities and Experience: 

  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot computer hardware components, including servers, workstations, routers, switches, and peripheral devices.
  • Install and update software applications and operating systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues.
  • Identify and address technical problems experienced by customers or end-users and provide effective solutions.
  • Provide on-site technical support to customers.
  • Respond to service requests, answer technical queries, and assist users in resolving IT-related issues.
  • Set up and maintain computer networks, including LAN and WAN configurations.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity issues and optimize network performance.
  • Create and maintain network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of site information and network credentials.
  • Work closely with other IT teams, including network architects, system administrators, and security professionals, to resolve complex issues and implement network upgrades or changes.
  • Be available for emergency call-outs and respond promptly to critical system failures or network outages.
  • Perform testing and quality assurance checks on IT systems to ensure performance and security standards are met.
  • Replace faulty hardware components and ensure proper configuration and integration into the IT environment.
  • Mentor junior engineers by providing guidance, training, and upskilling support.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain 3CX and Opera POS systems.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in IT support, field service, or technical roles.
  • Proven experience with on-site hardware/software installation, network setup, troubleshooting, and customer-facing support.
  • Strong knowledge of computer hardware, including servers, workstations, peripherals, routers, and switches.
  • Proficiency in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting operating systems (Windows and Linux) and software applications.
  • Experience with network setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting (LAN/WAN, connectivity, and performance optimisation).
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools, testing procedures, and basic IT security practices.
  • Knowledge and experience with 3CX and Opera POS systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Strong customer service orientation with clear verbal and written communication skills in English and Afrikaans.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and adapt to varying environments.
  • Physical ability to lift equipment (20–50 kg) and perform manual hardware-related tasks.
  • Willingness to participate in on-call and emergency response duties.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12 qualification.
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related field (advantageous).
  • Valid driver’s license and own transport.
